  • Ryokan (Japanese inn) in Kaike Onsen

  • If you are going from Izumo Taisha to Sakaiminato, I recommend going from Matsue through Daikonjima, passing through Sakaiminato's Betafumizaka Pass, then heading south on the national highway to Kaike Onsen. Kaike Seaside Hotel Umi no Shiki is a natural hot spring located in the city center, and is recommended for its beautiful views overlooking the sea.

  • Ryokan (Japanese inn) by the sea

  • Ryokan (Japanese inn) is located in the seaside hot spring town of Kaike Onsen, next to the Sea of Japan, and all rooms have an ocean view. It's convenient for both Izumo Taisha Shrine and the Gegege no Kitaro tour. It was great to be able to see the ocean while soaking in the hot spring. For meals, you can eat seafood dishes that use plenty of fresh seafood caught in nearby waters.

  • How about Kaike Onsen in Yonago?

  • If you plan to visit both Izumo Taisha and Sakaiminato, I recommend the Yonago area. My family also stayed at Kaike Onsen when we traveled a similar route last fall. Kaike Onsen is a small hot spring town about a 15-20 minute bus ride from Yonago Station, but it was convenient as there are frequent buses from Yonago. Among them, I recommend Kaike Seaside Hotel Umi no Shiki, which is relatively reasonable, has clean rooms, and offers good value for money. As the name suggests, the hotel is located right in front of the sea, and you can see the Sea of Japan from both your room and the hot spring. Depending on the season, you can also enjoy crab to your heart's content.
