  • Seeking the Best "Beauty Onsen" in Hakone? Your Guide to Amazing Hot Springs!

My sister and I are planning a trip to Japan and want to visit Hakone Onsen, which is super close to Tokyo. We're really hoping to find a hot spring with water that's great for the skin. Any recommendations for ryokans or hotels with "beauty onsen" qualities? We'd especially love places with open-air baths!

Hotel Okuyumoto

211 Yumotochaya, Hakonemachi, Ashigara-shimogun

  • Alkaline Simple Hot Spring for Soft Skin

  • Hotel Okuyumoto is only about a 10-minute drive from Hakone-Yumoto Onsen Station. The baths here are 100% natural, free-flowing hot spring water (Gensen Kakenagashi), and their open-air bath, with its view of the valley stream, will truly soothe your mind and body. The water is an alkaline simple hot spring, known for its incredibly soft feel on the skin. For meals, you can enjoy a buffet featuring seasonal ingredients.

Ryokan Aura Tachibana

574 Yumoto, Hakone-machi, Ashigarashimo-gun

  • Enjoy Beautiful Skin Hot Springs in Scenic Private Baths

  • How about Ryokan Aura Tachibana? This ryokan has an abundant supply of hot spring water with skin-beautifying effects flowing throughout the building. Not only can you enjoy the large public baths (which include an open-air bath and a sauna!), but there are also private open-air baths with incredible views that you can reserve. If you stay in a room with a private open-air bath, you can enjoy a relaxing soak anytime you like! The rooms are traditional Japanese-style with tatami mats, but if you're not a fan of sleeping on a futon, they also have rooms with two single beds. There's a free shuttle bus from the nearest Hakone-Yumoto Station, but it's also a pleasant 15-minute walk. I recommend strolling through the shopping street in front of the station and enjoying the atmosphere of the onsen town surrounded by nature as you make your way to the ryokan.

Hakone Yumoto Hotel

97 Yumotochaya, Hakone-machi, Ashigarashimo-gun

  • Experience "Bijin-no-Yu" from Four Different Hot Springs!

  • You absolutely have to stay at Hakone Yumoto Hotel! Their abundant hot spring water, drawn from four different sources, is rich in "metasilicic acid," a natural moisturizing ingredient. This promotes skin cell regeneration, leading to incredibly smooth and beautiful skin. They have a total of nine different baths, and the open-air bath, nestled amongst the natural trees, is especially recommended.

Hakone Yunohana Prince Hotel

Yunohana-kogen, Hakone-machi, Ashigara-shimo-gun

  • A Sky Full of Stars and Skin-Beautifying Waters - Simply the Best!

  • When it comes to skin-beautifying hot springs in Hakone, I highly recommend this hotel's onsen. The open-air bath is incredibly spacious, and at night, you can enjoy a sky full of stars. The cloudy hot spring water felt wonderful. It's a bit further from the center of Hakone, but that makes it a more tranquil and relaxing hotel. Even if you're not staying overnight, I suggest trying their day-use hot springs!
