When it comes to spring outings, cherry blossom viewing and touring cherry blossom spots are a must! We will introduce you to classic cherry blossom viewing spots as well as hidden gems. In eastern Japan, you can usually see cherry blossoms from late March to April. In 2025, the cherry blossoms are expected to bloom around March 29th in the Hokuriku region, and around March 25th in the Kanto and Tokai regions. The cherry blossoms only bloom for a short period of time, so be sure to plan your cherry blossom viewing trip so you don't miss the best time to see them!


Sumida River (Tokyo)

The Sumida River is a first-class river that runs through Tokyo, with a total length of about 23.5 km, and is very familiar to Tokyo residents. Approximately 1,000 Somei-Yoshino cherry trees bloom on both banks of the river. You can enjoy cherry blossom viewing on the riverside promenade or in Sumida Park. The contrast between the cherry blossoms and modern buildings such as Tokyo Skytree creates a beautiful landscape. Cherry blossom viewing from a water bus, such as a houseboat or a cherry blossom viewing cruise, is also recommended.

Sakura no Sato (Shizuoka)

Located in Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture, this spot has been selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots. You can leisurely enjoy the cherry blossoms on the vast 40,000m2 site at the foot of Mt. Omuroyama. There are over 1,000 cherry trees of about 40 varieties planted, and you can enjoy a wide variety of cherry blossoms over a long period from September to May. The cherry blossoms blooming with Mt. Omuroyama in the background are breathtakingly beautiful. The vast site is also recommended for picnics.

Sakura Mountain (Chiba)

Sakura no Yama, located in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture, is a park located right next to Narita International Airport. It is a unique spot where you can enjoy the collaboration of airplanes taking off and landing and cherry blossoms. The sight of approximately 500 cherry trees interweaving with the planes taking off and landing up close is a spectacular sight. You can enjoy the powerful sound of the planes' engines and the beauty of the cherry blossoms at the same time. It is easily accessible from Narita Airport and can be visited by car or bus.

Kumagaya Cherry Blossom Embankment (Saitama)

This famous cherry blossom spot in Kumagaya, Saitama Prefecture, has been selected as one of the "100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan." The sight of about 500 Somei-Yoshino cherry trees blooming along the banks of the Arakawa River for about 2km is a spectacular sight. During cherry blossom season, rape blossoms bloom below the banks, allowing you to enjoy the contrast between the pink of the cherry blossoms and the yellow of the rape blossoms. The sight of the pale pink of the cherry blossoms and the vibrant yellow of the rape blossoms is breathtakingly beautiful.

Steam Locomotive, Cherry Blossoms and Nanohana Highway (Tochigi)

The Moka Railway runs through the eastern area of Tochigi Prefecture. Along the Moka Railway, rows of cherry trees and rapeseed fields spread out, and the sight of a steam locomotive running through them attracts not only railway enthusiasts but also many other people. The steam locomotive operates on weekends, allowing you to enjoy the cherry blossoms while riding. There are also many famous cherry blossom spots along the Moka Railway, such as Gyōyagawa Waterfront Park.

Located in Asahi Town, Toyama Prefecture, this is a Breathtaking view spot where rows of cherry blossom trees, tulips, and rape blossoms bloom in full glory against the backdrop of the snow-capped Mount Asahi and Mount Shirouma. The breathtaking scenery is made up of rows of Somei-Yoshino cherry trees, colorful tulips, vibrant rape blossoms, and majestic mountains covered in snow. The flowers that local farmers have been cultivating for many years create a wonderful sight that heralds the arrival of spring.

Kenrokuen Garden (Ishikawa)

This Japanese garden is located in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and is counted as one of Japan's three most famous gardens. It has also been designated as a special national scenic spot. In spring, Kenrokuen is filled with cherry blossoms in full bloom, creating a particularly gorgeous atmosphere. Kenrokuen is planted with various types of cherry trees, including Somei-Yoshino, Higan-zakura, and Sato-zakura. The most famous is the Kenrokuen Kiku-zakura, a rare variety with many overlapping petals that bloom like a chrysanthemum flower. The garden is also lit up at night, creating a fantastic atmosphere that is different from the daytime.
