Want to experience Namahage in Akita? The Oshika Peninsula is a good place, but there are only a few hotels in Onjuku. I recommend the Oga Kanko Hotel. This inn is located in an excellent location, just a 3-minute walk from Yokote Station, and yet you can relax and unwind. The main building of Tsuru no Yu tends to get crowded during the day with day-trippers, but if you stay at a mountain inn, you can enjoy bathing in the evenings and other times when guests are staying overnight. Also, cooking around Japanese hearth is a true pleasure of a mountain trip, and I'm sure your children will enjoy it!

When I told the staff that it was my husband's birthday, they served us two glasses of wine for free. It was nice to be able to eat leisurely at the restaurant right across from the room. The food was very delicious and the kiritanpo nabe was also very tasteful and worth trying. I also recommend taking a cruise around nearby Lake Tazawa the next day.

The Oga Peninsula where the hotel is located is known as the home of Namahage. It belongs to the Oga hot spring, and hot spring are free-flowing from the source. The specialty here is the fisherman's local dish "isoyaki." This dish involves putting hot stones into a tub containing fish and boiling it instantly, and as it cooks in an instant, the deliciousness of the seafood is locked in. Near the hotel is "Namahage Sato Kagura," a facility where you can see Namahage, so be sure to visit there as well.

The reason we recommend this inn is that it is like Oga's Namahage Ryokan (Japanese inn), where you can fully immerse yourself in the Namahage atmosphere. There is a Namahage drum show after dinner, which gets the guests all excited and enthusiastic, and the hot spring water taps are also shaped like Namahage, which is very impressive. The inn is located in a place where you can see the Sea of Japan, and you can enjoy delicious hot pots and local dishes, so it is a great place to relax with the family. By the way, the Namahage drummers are young and cool, so your daughter will probably be happy rather than scared.

At a nearby facility, there is a Namahage drum event at night. It is close to the hotel, but there is a shuttle bus, so it is convenient. There is also a Namahage experience center, so it is a good idea to stay here and visit it. My daughter, who is in the third grade of elementary school, cried, though.
