It is somewhat pricey, but has a warm, friendly atmosphere. The staff will guide you, and they let you store your bike under the eaves. There is a large public bath, which is perfect for soothing muscles after riding. On weekdays, they offer simple no‑meals plans at more affordable rates.

• A few years ago, I took a boat from Onomichi to Setoda on Ikuchijima Island and enjoyed cycling from there. This Ryokan (Japanese inn) has been used as a filming Ryokan (Japanese inn) for movies, but it's a down-to-earth inn with reasonable prices. The food, made with local seafood, was fresh and delicious. Ikuchijima has many attractions, including Kosanji Temple, the Hirayama Ikuo Museum of Art, and many mandarin orange orchards. It's an island where you can relax.
