  • Chichibu Onsen: Best Ryokans with Private Open-Air Onsen

I'm looking for a ryokan in Chichibu Onsen with a private open-air bath in the room. A natural hot spring would be great, but it's not a dealbreaker. What are some good options?

  • Private Onsen Tub and Gourmet Kaiseki Dinner

  • We chose the plan with a private open-air bath for our anniversary trip. It was so luxurious to enjoy the hot spring anytime while overlooking the beautiful river view without worrying about other guests. Although dinner was served in the dining hall, the Kaiseki dinner, made with seasonal ingredients, was truly gourmet and elegant. It was the ultimate Japanese retreat—perfect for couples seeking privacy, great food, and a relaxing soak.

  • Washitsu with Private Tub & River Sounds

  • We stayed in a Japanese-style room (washitsu) with an engawa (veranda). The quiet sound of the river made the time spent there feel truly special and relaxing. The room was clean, spacious, and perfectly blended traditional Japanese atmosphere with modern comfort. It was a wonderful stay where we could enjoy the natural sounds of Chichibu in complete privacy.

  • Private Bath & Easy Train Access from Tokyo

  • We chose this Chichibu ryokan for its convenience; you can reach it easily by limited express train from Tokyo, and it's within walking distance of the Chichibu Railway station. Its easy access makes it a perfect destination for a quick weekend getaway without needing a car. The mountain views from our room's private bath were stunning, providing a great escape from city life.

  • Historic Hot Spring with Private Bath

  • I stayed here because Wadoh Onsen is known as the most historic hot spring in Chichibu. The smooth, self-sourced natural spring water was truly superb. Having a private open-air bath in the room meant we could enjoy the quality water anytime we wanted. This is a truly relaxing adult retreat where you can feel the history and tradition of Japan.

  • Of the 38 rooms, 14 have open-air baths - hot springs!

  • I don't know how many people there will be, but if you are traveling alone, there are only five rooms available, so it's best to make a reservation early. The baths were opened in the time of Takeda Shingen, so it is an old hot spring area with a long history, and the hot springs are called Wado mineral springs, which have high healing powers, and are also called Yakushi no Yu. The baths at our hotel are also wonderful, and the indoor rock bath and the open-air bath surrounded by trees beyond are very relaxing and nice baths. There is also an indoor cypress bath and a large open-air bath next to it. It is also nice that you can use all of them until the morning except for cleaning time (1 hour). There is also a private bath and a private rock bath that is just the right size for two people, and although reservations are required, they are free. For meals, you can eat a generous kaiseki(a traditional Japanese multiple course meal )with seafood, and in the morning, you can have a breakfast with miso potatoes, a B-class gourmet food called a country breakfast.

  • There are rooms with open-air baths where you can enjoy the sound of the Yokose River.

  • Wadou Onsen Yakushi no Yu Yunoyado Wadou has rooms with open-air baths, where you can relax in the hot springs in private while watching the murmuring of the Yokose River and the green scenery. The hotel also has a large public bath, open-air bath, and private bath, as well as a healing stone spa. This feels a little different from a rock sauna, and allows you to detox without any strain. Dinner is a kaiseki meal made with seasonal local ingredients, which you can enjoy in your room or a private room. There is a free shuttle from Wadou Kurodani Station on the Chichibu Railway, making this an easily accessible inn.
