Recommended hot spring inns and events in Hokkaido in winter
I want to take my small children to Hokkaido in January or February to see the snow and ice. I would like to know recommended events and accommodations in the area during that time. I would also like to go to a hot spring, so it would be nice to stay at an accommodation with a hot spring.
14Hotel rankings chosen by people
- The Dormy Inn Group is a rare hotel that offers affordable and casual accommodation, yet also has a large natural hot spring bath. There is also an open-air bath, so you can fully enjoy the hot spring atmosphere. Another feature of this hotel is its high convenience, with a laundry corner, a manga corner, and convenience stores nearby. This location also provides good access to the Asahikawa Winter Festival, which is held in February.rianko's answer (Posted on:2024/12/ 3)

A hotel close to the event venue and with excellent facilities
-
We recommend the Asahikawa Winter Festival, one of Hokkaido 's three major winter festivals. It takes place in mid-February, and the park where the festival is held is within easy walking or taxi distance from the inn. The large hot spring bath is open until late, so even those with children who are unsure of what time to go will be able to enjoy a bath! In addition to restaurants and bars, the hotel also has an izakaya. As its name "Akachouchin" suggests, it is a very Japanese izakaya. Breakfast is served buffet style, so you can eat whatever you like, ensuring the whole family will be satisfied. There are some surprising menu items, such as ramen.夢々's answer (Posted on:2024/12/ 2)

A winter event with a quintessentially Japanese landscape
- This inn, located on the banks of the Jozankei River, is located near the spot where Yuki Touro 2025 will be held. Ryokan (Japanese inn) is built in Japanese style, so it's perfect for sightseeing in Japan, and there are many spaces filled with attention to detail inside, such as an open-air bath surrounded by old trees. The first event mentioned, Yuki Touro 2025, is an installation event set in the snowy Jozankei Shrine, and is a winter event where you can enjoy warm Japanese-style lighting.asas's answer (Posted on:2024/12/ 2)

A business hotel with a delicious breakfast and hot springs
-
When you think of snow festivals in Hokkaido, the Sapporo Snow Festival is the one to go to! The recommended accommodation is a business hotel with a hot spring, located about a 5-minute walk from Odori Station or Susukino Station. You can also take the limousine bus from New Chitose Airport to Susukino, so it's very accessible. For breakfast, I had a seafood bowl that you could arrange however you like. There were also many other menu items that were unique to Hokkaido, which I enjoyed. In addition to the large public bath, there is a cypress bath and a tub bath. It is a chain hotel with locations nationwide, so the prices are relatively low, the breakfast is delicious, and the rooms are comfortable and reasonably priced.中里's answer (Posted on:2024/12/ 2)

A hotel with a large public bath located close to Odori Station
- I went to the Sapporo Snow Festival some time ago, and there were lots of huge snow and ice sculptures, which was fun. I stayed at this hotel on that occasion. It's right near Odori Station, and it's conveniently close to the festival site. There was a large public bath, so I was able to relax. The welcome aroma, which isn't often found in hotels, was very pleasant and helped me relax. The room was also modern and clean. The Japanese and Western Buffet was healthy and had a decent selection, so I was satisfied.帽子屋's answer (Posted on:2024/12/ 1)

A resort spa where you can fully enjoy Lake Shikotsu hot springs
- The Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival, an ice festival held at Lake Shikotsu, was very beautiful with all kinds of ice sculptures. The night lighting was especially good. Lake Shikotsu is also famous for its high-quality hot springs. Lake Shikotsu Onsen is also known as the "Bijin-no-yu (a hot spring of beauty)." The resort spa here has a spacious garden-style open-air bath where you can enjoy the snow and feel very charming. There is also a large bath, foot bath, bubble bath, and sauna. There are also rooms with open-air baths. The guest lounge has a stylish Japanese hearth and is a relaxing space.井口's answer (Posted on:2024/12/ 1)

A luxurious Japanese-style inn near Lake Shikotsu
- The highlight of the trip was the ice festival "Chitose Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival," which made use of the bitterly cold climate of Lake Shikotsu. There were ice sculptures of all sizes. They shone a beautiful blue during the day, and were lit up in various colors at night, which was very beautiful. This inn is located next to Lake Shikotsu, and it is convenient to use the free shuttle service from Chitose Station once a day by reservation. We were able to enjoy Lake Shikotsu hot springs in the private open-air bath and large bath. The open-air bath while watching the snow is the best. The natural view from the terrace lounge was also nice. We were able to spend a luxurious time in the guest room with an open-air garden bath.コート's answer (Posted on:2024/12/ 3)

Sounkyo Onsen and the Ice Waterfall Festival in Hokkaido
-
As for winter events in Hokkaido, I recommend the "Ice Waterfall Festival" held from late January to early March in Sounkyo Onsen, Kamikawa Town. You can get to the festival by bus from JR Kamikawa Station. The snow and ice sculptures are lit up at night, creating a fantastical and beautiful sight. The fireworks are short, lasting about 5 minutes, but they were impressive. After the festival, you can warm up your cold body in Sounkyo Onsen. The inn here has an open-air bath in the sky and a large observation bath, and you can enjoy the natural beauty of the magnificent mountains while soaking in the hot springs.星's answer (Posted on:2024/12/ 1)

Sounkyo Onsen and the Ice Festival are amazing
- I recommend the Ice Waterfall Festival and Sounkyo Onsen. This ice event takes place on the riverbed of the Ishikari River, and the ice sculptures made using the natural features of the deep gorge at the foot of Mount Daisetsu are spectacular. This hotel is located on a hill about a 10-minute walk from the venue. There are three large baths and two open-air baths, each with its own unique characteristics and great views. The view of the mountains from the observation bath was particularly spectacular. There is also a picture book and encyclopedia corner and a shop, so even small children can enjoy themselves. The meals are Buffet for breakfast and dinner, with a selection of Japanese, Western and Chinese dishes, mainly made with ingredients from Hokkaido. The presentation was Breathtaking view, there was a wide variety, and everything was freshly cooked in the open kitchen and delicious.浅姫's answer (Posted on:2024/12/ 1)
