  • Recommended hot spring inns and events in Hokkaido in winter

I want to take my small children to Hokkaido in January or February to see the snow and ice. I would like to know recommended events and accommodations in the area during that time. I would also like to go to a hot spring, so it would be nice to stay at an accommodation with a hot spring.

Premier Hotel -CABIN- Asahikawa

  • A hotel close to the event venue and with excellent facilities

  • We recommend the Asahikawa Winter Festival, one of Hokkaido 's three major winter festivals. It takes place in mid-February, and the park where the festival is held is within easy walking or taxi distance from the inn. The large hot spring bath is open until late, so even those with children who are unsure of what time to go will be able to enjoy a bath! In addition to restaurants and bars, the hotel also has an izakaya. As its name "Akachouchin" suggests, it is a very Japanese izakaya. Breakfast is served buffet style, so you can eat whatever you like, ensuring the whole family will be satisfied. There are some surprising menu items, such as ramen.

  • Asahikawa Winter Festival and Hotels near Asahikawa Station

  • The Asahikawa Winter Festival, held in early February, was great. It features impressive snow sculptures that have even been recognized by the Guinness World Records. There are many things for children to enjoy, such as a giant maze, slides, and snowman-making. The fireworks are also worth seeing, and there is a market where you can enjoy Hokkaido gourmet food and local cuisine. At night, the ice sculptures are lit up, creating a fantastic atmosphere. This hotel near the festival site is conveniently located a 3-minute walk from Asahikawa Station. There is a natural hot spring and sauna, and breakfast at the observation restaurant with a view is fantastic.
