  • [Japan's World Heritage Site] Recommended accommodations for visiting the Kumano Kodo trail

married couple in our 50s who want to go to the Kumano Kodo trail in the fall. Can you recommend a nice inn with a hot spring? The price should be around 30,000 yen for one night with two meals.

Kawayu Onsen Fujiya Ryokan

  • You can experience an open-air bath on the riverbank

  • I stayed here while walking the Kumano Kodo trail. Both the open-air bath in the room and the open-air bath by the river were charming and wonderful. The open-air bath by the river in particular offers a sense of comfort and luxury that can only be experienced here. Outside of winter, you can rent a bathing suit and a shovel and dig your own riverside open-air bath.

  • A historic and relaxing inn

  • A few years ago, married couple and I stayed at Fujiya in Kawayu Onsen when we walked the Kumano Kodo trail. The room with the open-air bath was very spacious and modern, and we were able to stay comfortably. I think the price was less than 30,000 yen per person. We also appreciated the shuttle service to the Kumano Kodo trails such as Hosshinmon Oji every morning.
