  • Where to Stay in Shirakawa-go? From Gassho-style Inns to Hotels with Hot Springs

Shirakawa-go in Gifu Prefecture is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many people visit this charming village of Gassho-style houses on a day trip, but staying overnight offers a fantastic view that is different from the daytime. This time, I'm looking for hotels and Ryokan (Japanese inn) in the Shirakawa-go area. I'd like to know your recommendations for accommodations, from Gassho-style guesthouses to hotels with hot springs where you can relax.

Shirakawago no Yu Hotel

337,Ogi-machi,shiwakara-mura,Ono-gun

  • An inn with hot springs where you can enjoy dinner made with local ingredients

  • If you want to enjoy a hot spring in Shirakawa-go, Shirakawa-go no Yu is the best recommendation. The food is also appealing, with delicious Japanese cuisine made with locally grown koshihikari rice and Hida beef, a specialty of the Hida region. The Hida beef steak for dinner is also excellent, and of course the view from the bath is amazing, and the natural hot spring water is known for leaving your skin smooth.

Shiroyamakan

Ogimachi 1168-1

  • Accommodation near an observation deck overlooking Shirakawa-go

  • Shiroyamakan is a historic Ryokan (Japanese inn) located near the Shiroyama Castle Tower Observatory, which offers a panoramic view of Shirakawa-go. Therefore, the greatest privilege is being able to leisurely enjoy Breathtaking view from the observation deck in the early morning or at dusk, when there are no tourists around. The baths are made of Kiso cypress and use spring water, and can be reserved for private use in each room.

Shirakawago Onyado Yuinosho

908-2 Iijima

  • Kyoritsu Resort's signature hospitality is also a highlight

  • If you're looking for a comfortable hotel near Shirakawa-go, we recommend Onyado Yuinosho! It boasts private baths where you can relax in a private space. Ryoritsu Resort's specialty soy sauce ramen, "Yonakisoba (noodles sold by a hawker at night)," is served free of charge, and there are plenty of other warm hospitality touches to offer beyond the hot springs.

TOYOTA Shirakawa-Go Eco-Institute

223 Magari, Shirakawa-mura, Ono-gun

  • If you want to enjoy nature, this is the place

  • This hotel is recommended for those who want to actively experience the nature of Shirakawa-go, such as exploring mountain streams in the summer and hiking on snow in the winter. The hotel is of course comfortable, with clean rooms and a large public bath with natural hot spring water. Another attractive feature is the authentic French cuisine made with Hida ingredients for dinner.

Shirakawago Guest House Kei

Hatotani 329-1

  • A clean guesthouse within walking distance of Shirakawa-go

  • This guesthouse is located a 15-minute walk from Shirakawa-go, so you can leave your luggage and go exploring the area. It was completely renovated in 2018, and the interior is clean. There is a shared kitchen where you can cook your own meals, and a lounge where you can interact with other travelers, so interacting with other guests is one of the highlights of this inn.
