  • Lake Biwa Otsu Prince Hotel
  • What hotels in Shiga are recommended? I'd love to know why!

I'm planning a trip to Japan and will be staying in Kyoto. I've heard Shiga is a great place, especially for families with children. I'm having trouble figuring out where to stay. Can you recommend a hotel in the Lake Biwa area? I'd love to hear what makes the hotel special, as well as some local insights and tips!

Lake Biwa Otsu Prince Hotel

4-7-7 Nionohama, Otsu-shi, Shiga

  • Baby-friendly access and facilities

  • Lake Biwa Otsu Prince Hotel is just two stops from Kyoto Station, about 10 minutes away, and there's a free shuttle bus from Otsu Station, making it extremely accessible. The hotel has a nursing room (diaper changing area) on the first floor, and they even lend out baby bottle sterilizer sets for free. All rooms have a beautiful lake view, so it's highly recommended for families with babies who want to relax in their rooms.

Lake Biwa Marriott Hotel

2876 Jukkenya, Imahama-cho Moriyama-shi Shiga

  • If you are traveling with a baby, the Japanese-style room is comfortable.

  • I also stayed at Lake Biwa Marriott Hotel with my one-year-old child. Traveling with a baby can be a bit worrying, but in a tatami room, I was able to let my child sleep on the futon without having to worry about them crawling or falling off the bed, which was really reassuring. The hotel also has a "Welcome Baby Plan," which seems to include a service where toys and baby supplies are provided in the room. It's also easily accessible from Kyoto, so it's definitely worth considering.

Biwako Hotel - Lakeside Hotspring Resort

2-40 Hamamachi, Otsu, Shiga

  • Lakeside hotel with lake view and balcony in every room

  • Lake Biwa Hotel is highly recommended for families. The best part is that all rooms have balconies overlooking Lake Biwa. It's really nice to step out onto the balcony in the morning and feel the breeze off Lake Biwa. If you have small children, it's safer to choose a Japanese-style room or Japanese and Western room style room where you can take off your shoes and relax. My child loved rolling around on the tatami mats. For meals, I recommend the buffet restaurant. It was great that the whole family could enjoy a meal while enjoying the view.

Grand Mercure Lake Biwa Resort & Spa

38 Oshima-cho, Nagahama-shi

  • It is safe even for families with small children.

  • Located in the Nagahama area on the north side of Lake Biwa, the Grand Mercure Lake Biwa Resort & Spa is highly recommended for families with small children. If you choose a Japanese-Japanese and Western room, you'll find a tatami area where you can let your baby sleep without worrying about them crawling or falling out of bed. The dinner buffet (Buffet) has a wide variety of options, from children's favorites to dishes for adults. The hotel is right next to Nagahama Castle, offering beautiful views of Lake Biwa.

Kyo-Ohmi

Ogoto 6-5-1

  • Close to Kyoto, onsen(hot spring) overlooking Lake Biwa are amazing

  • If you're coming from Kyoto, the Ogoto onsen(hot spring) area is also close by and convenient. Lake Biwa Grand Hotel Kyo-Omi is about a 20-minute train ride from Kyoto Station, and there's a free shuttle bus from the nearest station (Ogoto onsen(hot spring) Station), making it easy to get around even with children. The highlight of this hotel is undoubtedly the spacious public bath with a panoramic view of Lake Biwa. The view from the open-air observation bath is truly refreshing. If you have small children and are worried about using the public bath, you can reserve a private bath for a fee, allowing you to relax in the hot onsen(hot spring) without worrying about others.
