Recommendations for English-Friendly Hot Spring Ryokans with a Japanese Ambiance in Kanto? (Under ¥20,000 per person per night)
We're looking for recommendations for hot spring ryokans for a foreign couple visiting Kanto in August. Ideally, they'd like a place with traditional Japanese architecture and services, and English-speaking staff. Their budget is under ¥20,000 per person per night.

- Let me introduce you to a hidden gem hot spring inn: Kashiwaya Ryokan in Shima Onsen, Gunma Prefecture. Shima Onsen boasts wonderful spring water quality, but it's often overshadowed by the more famous Kusatsu Onsen. The building features a distinctive Japanese modern atmosphere, and its cozy 14 rooms even have "black telephones," which are quite rare now, allowing you to experience the nostalgic ambiance of an old-fashioned Japanese toji (hot spring cure). While it may not offer complete English support, they actively welcome international guests, so the staff are likely accustomed to assisting foreign visitors.OnsenDaisuki's answer (Posted on:2025/7/ 9)

A Cozy and Affordable Stay!
- This ryokan is located in Shima Onsen, Gunma Prefecture. I've stayed here twice, and I absolutely love the meals – they use seasonal ingredients, making them very healthy and delicious. What truly stands out, however, is the incredibly friendly atmosphere created by the staff. They are discreet and not overbearing, yet always willing to go the extra mile to meet guests' needs, which makes for an exceptionally comfortable stay.ユーザー's answer (Posted on:2014/6/ 3)
