  • Kobe Meriken Park Oriental Hotel
  • Kobe Luminarie & Chinatown trip. Hotel recs nearby < 15,000yen?

Heading back to Kobe (I used to live there!). Planning to see the Luminarie and hit Chinatown (Nankin-machi) the next day for food/shopping. Need a hotel with easy access to both. Budget is 15,000yen/night.

Kobe Meriken Park Oriental Hotel

5-6, Hatoba Chyou Chuo-Ku, Hyugo-Ken

  • The night view of Kobe port is amazing!

  • A semicircular hotel standing by the sea. There is a shuttle bus from Shin-Kobe Station and Sannomiya Station to the hotel, and the price is within budget. You can walk to Chinatown and the boutiques of the former settlement, shop, and go to the Luminarie venue on foot.

  • Enjoy the night view on a trip to Kobe

  • Kobe Meriken Park Hotel is a beautiful hotel by the sea where you can enjoy the art of light at Kobe Luminarie and still bask in the afterglow. It is sure to be a wonderful day surrounded by the beautiful winter night view. It is also close to the downtown area, so you can satisfy your appetite and your shopping.

  • The view of Harborland is beautiful

  • If you go to Chinatown in Motomachi, you should also see Kobe Tower! The hotel I recommend is the Kobe Meriken Park Oriental Hotel. Chinatown is within walking distance of Kobe Tower, and you can see Kobe Tower and the Ferris wheel at Harborland from the hotel rooms and restaurants.

  • Convenient access to Nankinmachi

  • I recommend this hotel because it is conveniently located about 10 minutes walk from Nankinmachi and you can also walk to Sannomiya. The view from the room was not very good when I stayed there, but the rooms facing the harbor have a good view and you can see the ships. The food is also delicious. I especially recommend the teppanyaki restaurant.

Kobe Sannomiya Tokyu REI Hotel

6-1-5 Kumoidori, Chuo-ku

  • Convenient hotel near the station

  • Chinatown is at Motomachi Station, but the neighboring Sannomiya Station and Motomachi Station are connected by a shopping street, and it takes 1 minute by train or about 5 minutes on foot. (If you lived there in the past, you may know this.) The start of the Luminarie is near Motomachi Station, but the finish is in Sannomiya. JR, Hankyu, Hanshin, Port Liner, and subway lines are all at Sannomiya Station, so I recommend staying in Sannomiya, shopping while walking around Center Street, and eating in Chinatown.

  • You can walk to both Luminarie and Chinatown.

  • It's about a 10-minute walk to Chinatown, and it's close to Sannomiya Station, so it's very convenient for transportation. It feels a bit like a business hotel, but it's convenient for going to any tourist spot in Kobe. There's a parking lot inside the hotel, so it's convenient for cars.

Hotel Okura Kobe

2-1 Hatoba-cho, Chuo-ku

  • A prestigious hotel in a convenient location in Motomachi, Kobe

  • Both the Luminarie and Chinatown are located in the Motomachi area of Kobe. There are several hotels in the Motomachi area that are easily accessible, but the one I would like to recommend this time is Hotel Okura Kobe. During the Luminarie period, there are some traffic restrictions, and you may have to take a detour from Motomachi or Sannomiya Station to the Luminarie area when going out at night or on your way home, which can be a bit of a hassle. For this reason, Hotel Okura, which is close to Motomachi and located independent guest cottages from the station from the Luminarie area, is relatively unaffected by traffic restrictions and is convenient. Although it is a luxury hotel, it can be within your budget if you choose the right plan and date, and it is also convenient that there is a shuttle bus to Sannomiya on weekdays and to Shin-Kobe on weekends and holidays.

  • The closest hotel to Luminarie and Chinatown

  • The prestigious Okura Hotel is in a very convenient location for moving around Kobe city, and is the most reliable and recommended hotel in Kobe. The food in the hotel is delicious, with Chinese, Japanese, and French cuisine, and the overall service is good. The view from the room was also great, with a beautiful night view.

Kobe Motomachi Tokyu REI Hotel

1-2-35, Sakaemachi-dori, Chuo

  • Located next to Kobe Chinatown

  • The hotel has a women-only floor, so it's safe for solo travelers. Another attractive feature is the easy access to Chinatown. There are deals on multiple-night stays and plans that include a one-day pass for the city loop bus, so you can stay at a great price according to your schedule. If you avoid peak season, you can easily stay for around 10,000 yen.

  • Adjacent to Chinatown

  • This stylish hotel is located next to Kobe's Chinatown. It is just a few minutes' walk from all JR, Hanshin and subway stations, and as mentioned above, it is a hotel with good access to Chinatown. It is recommended because you can easily return to the hotel even after shopping or playing in Chinatown.

Kobe Plaza Hotel

1-13-12 Motomachidori, Chuo-ku

  • Just a one-minute walk from JR Motomachi Station

  • The best thing about this hotel is that it's reasonably priced! It's located in front of JR and Hanshin Motomachi Station, and is conveniently located within walking distance of tourist spots such as Nankinmachi (Chinatown), Meriken Park, and Harborland. The rooms are also nice! The Wi-Fi and other internet connections were also good.

Kobe Sannomiya Union Hotel

  • Chinatown "Nankinmachi" is quite close.

  • I think the price was about 15,000 yen. It's in the center of Kobe, but it's a quiet environment. You can also get to Osaka in about 30 minutes. If you search, you can find more information. The breakfast was Buffet style, with a wide variety of menu items, and it was delicious. I recommend this hotel.

Kobe Port Tower Hotel - Nagomi no Yuyado

6-1, Hatobacho, Chuoh-ku

  • The breakfast is delicious and there is a hot spring.

  • I think it's a normal business hotel, but there was a large hot spring bath, which was very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was a mix of Japanese and Western cuisine, with a wide variety of options, and was delicious. Everyone from grandmothers to grandchildren ate heartily. It's a bit of a walk to Chinatown, but it's not too far to walk. There is a free shuttle from Sannomiya Station. Kobe Port Tower and Meriken Park are nearby, so it was very pleasant to take a walk before breakfast.

Hotel Viamare Kobe

Chuo-ku Kyomachi 67

  • The Luminarie is right in front of you

  • It's within a 10-minute walk from Sannomiya Station on the JR, Hankyu, and Hanshin lines. It's also within a 10-minute taxi ride from Shin-Kobe. Good access. The hotel is clean and nice. reception desk is very accommodating. Many foreigners stay here. However, it's more than enough for a budget of 15,000 yen per night. Chinatown is also nearby.
