  • Hotel Sunroute Kyoto
  • I want to make this a trip where I can enjoy the feeling of living in Kyoto.

I'm planning to go to Kyoto with my mother for a week. I don't want to rush around the tourist spots, but I want to take my time and enjoy the cityscape as if I were living in Kyoto. Can you tell me about hotels in areas with many townhouses and other areas where you can get a feel for the life of Kyoto?

Hotel Sunroute Kyoto

406 Nanba-Cho, Matsubara-Sagaru, Kawaramachi-Dori, Shimogyo-Ku

  • It is a quiet and beautiful hotel.

  • It's a little independent guest cottages from Shijo Kawaramachi, but it's clean and the rooms are quite spacious. It's nice to go to Shijo Kawaramachi for shopping, and take a stroll along the river. It's quiet and recommended because it's independent guest cottages from the city center.

Hearton Hotel Kyoto

405 Funaya-chou, Higashinotoin-Dori Oike-Agaru, Nakagyo-Ku

  • It's surprisingly quiet and convenient.

  • It's about a 2-minute walk from Karasuma Oike Station, but the surrounding area is mostly residential, so it's quiet. It's also in an office district, so there are many convenience stores, and you can walk to a department store. When I lived nearby, I often went to a saikyozuke shop right next door.

Hotel Monterey Kyoto

604 Manjuya-cho Sanjo-Sagaru, Karasuma-dori, Nakagyo-ku

  • There is also a large public bath on the rooftop.

  • We stayed here for two nights as a family (married couple and two small children) over New Year's last year. It was located in the center of the city, close to the subway station, and very convenient for sightseeing in Kyoto. The famous Nishiki Market was within walking distance even for children. There was a large public bath on the rooftop, which we used on the second night, although it was charged. The restaurant in the building was also very delicious.

Hotel Granvia Kyoto

JR Kyoto Station Karasuma Entrance Karasuma-Dori Shiokoji-Sagaru Shimogyo-Ku Kyoto

  • A stylish hotel with a beautiful night view of Kyoto

  • I stayed here for one night on business. The room is spacious and stylish, so you can stay comfortably. There is a lounge on the top floor, so you can enjoy the night view while drinking. There are many restaurants in the hotel and around Kyoto Station, so it is very convenient. I recommend it, so why not make a reservation if you like.

Kyoto Arashiyama Ranzan Hotel

33 Saga-Tenryuji Susukinobaba-cho, Ukyo-ku

  • The food is very Kyoto-like

  • Although it is out of the center of Kyoto, it is very convenient for walking around Arashiyama. Although it is located very close to Togetsukyo Bridge, it is very quiet because it is surrounded by rivers and greenery, and the atmosphere is not too fancy. The food is also very Kyoto-like and delicious. There are Japanese and Western-style rooms, but I think the Japanese-style rooms are more relaxing.

Citadines Karasuma-Gojo Kyoto

432 Matsuya-cho Gojo-dori Karasuma-Higashiiru Shimogyo-ku

  • A hotel with a kitchenette, perfect for long-term stays

  • If you are staying for a week, we recommend the Citadines Kyoto Karasuma Gojo, which has a kitchen in the room. Eating out every meal can be a hassle, but if you have a kitchen, you can eat small meals in your room or heat them up. It is also very convenient as it comes with almost everything you might need, including cooking utensils such as pots and pans, tableware, wine glasses, and knives. It also comes with a refrigerator and DVD player, so you can feel as if you are living there.

Ryokan Kyoto Ohanabo

66-2 Syukuyacyou, Kyoutoshi Shimogyoku

  • Relax in a Japanese-style wooden building

  • It's within a 10-minute walk from the station, so it's a good choice if you're traveling with someone. It's inexpensive, but has all the necessary facilities and services, so it's recommended for private use. Although it's a small Ryokan (Japanese inn) like a private home, the food is authentic and delicious. You can also experience Kyoto's food culture, such as Kyoto cuisine.

Yuzuya Ryokan

545 Yasakajinja, minamidonari, Gionmachi minamigawa

  • You can meet maiko and get a feel for Kyoto.

  • This Ryokan (Japanese inn) was located next to Yasaka Shrine and close to Gion. Because it was close to Gion, I was able to meet maikos while walking outside, which was also an experience that made me feel like I was in Kyoto. As the name Yuzuya Ryokan (Japanese inn) suggests, the yuzu dishes were very delicious and there were many elegant dishes.

Guest House Waraku-an

19-2 Sannocho, Shogoin, Sakyo-ku

  • Feel like a Kyoto local at a guesthouse

  • It is located near Heian Shrine, which is very convenient for sightseeing in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. As the name "Machiya Guesthouse Warakuan" suggests, it is an irresistible accommodation for Kyoto lovers, where you will feel as if you are living in the city of your dreams. Please spend some time here as if you were a Kyoto resident.

ManyonoyuHotelKyotoEminence

Nishikyo-ku Oharano Higashisakaidani-cho 2-4

  • Hotel with natural hot springs

  • It's located in Kyoto city, so it's convenient for going anywhere. They have a wide range of plans for stays without meals, so I think it's worth it for a week's stay. One of the features of this hotel is that it has a wide range of hot springs, considering its size. I also thought it was convenient that there were drug stores and restaurants nearby.
