  • KAMENOI HOTEL OARAI
  • Kairakuen Garden trip. Need Ryokan recs that serve "Anko Nabe" (Anglerfish).

Planning a trip to Japan with my wife to see Kairakuen Garden (one of the "Three Great Gardens"). We want to stay at a Ryokan with good access that serves the local specialty "Anko Nabe" (Anglerfish hot pot). Any recommendations?

KAMENOI HOTEL OARAI

7986-2 Isohamacho, Oaraimachi, Higashiibarakigun

  • A seaside hotel where you can enjoy delicious monkfish hotpot in winter

  • This is also not Ryokan (Japanese inn) (traditional Japanese inn), but it is a hotel that offers great food that lets you fully enjoy the bounty of Ibaraki Prefecture 's abundant seafood. It is about an hour's bus ride from Kairakuen. In winter, it is popular for its luxurious course menu, which includes monkfish hotpot, a specialty of the hotel. The view from the open-air bath overlooking the Pacific Ocean is also spectacular, and you can relax and enjoy Oarai's natural onsen(hot spring).

  • The view and the monkfish hotpot are recommended.

  • It's a short drive from Mito, and if you take the train to Oarai Station, there is also a shuttle bus. It's on a bit of a hill, so the view of the river flowing into the sea is very beautiful. You can see it well from the hot springs, which have a good view. Of course, the monkfish hotpot is also delicious. Since it's a "Kanpo no Yado", the price is reasonable and I was satisfied.

Toyoko Inn Mito-eki Minami-guchi

2-3-40, Sakuragawa

  • A hotel adjacent to the station and close to a famous monkfish hotpot restaurant

  • Although it is not Ryokan (Japanese inn), it is located right in front of JR Mito Station, making it the perfect base for sightseeing. You can easily get to Kairakuen from the bus rotary at the station. The hotel does not serve monkfish hotpot, but there are many famous monkfish hotpot restaurants around the station, such as "Sansui." It is part of Toyoko Inn, a major hotel chain, so you can stay in a clean room while keeping accommodation costs down.

Ryokan Sakanaya Honten

715 Isohama-cho, Oarai-machi, Higashi Ibaragi, Ibaragi

  • This is an inn where you can enjoy delicious monkfish hotpot.

  • From now through the winter, you can enjoy delicious monkfish here. It's nice to be able to enjoy it with a miso flavor. The rooms are of a normal design, but they are well-cleaned, so you can stay there without worry. The next morning breakfast is also delicious and plentiful, so it gives you energy.
