The Fujiya Hotel

359 Miyanoshita

  • The First Resort Hotel in Japan, Established in 1878!

  • I absolutely recommend the Fujiya Hotel in Miyanoshita, Hakone! Built in 1878 during Japan's Meiji period, this was the country's first-ever resort hotel, created to welcome international guests. It has hosted famous figures like Charlie Chaplin, Helen Keller, and John Lennon and his wife. The hotel has a unique architectural style that blends Japanese and Western elements, and it's considered one of the top classic hotels in Japan. What's more, you can enjoy a hot spring bath here. The hotel has a large public bath, but even better, all of the guest rooms have their own bathtubs fed directly by the Miyanoshita onsen source! So you can relax in a private hot spring bath right in your room. The hotel also has a museum that details its long history and a garden that recreates a traditional Japanese countryside landscape. This is a hotel you'll want to stay at for more than just one or two nights.

  • A long-established hotel in Hakone where you can experience something out of the ordinary

  • We stayed here on our wedding anniversary. This hotel has a history of over 140 years, and from the moment you step inside, you are overwhelmed by its classical beauty. Particularly impressive are the intricate carvings, meticulously maintained gardens, and herb gardens. The traditional French cuisine we enjoyed in the main dining room, "The Fujiya," was also exceptional. This is a truly one-of-a-kind hotel, where Japanese hospitality and Western architectural beauty are beautifully combined. I would truly love to return on another special occasion.
