  • Any recommendations for a good onsen near Nagoya that's easy to get to by train?

My friend and I are doing a foodie trip to Nagoya and would love to unwind at an onsen ryokan afterwards. Any suggestions for a relaxing place that's less than a 90-minute train journey away?

6-264,Unuma-minami-machi,Kagamihara-city

  • Great Views of Inuyama Castle and the Kiso River

  • This ryokan is fantastic. It's just a single, 40-minute train ride from Nagoya Station, making it super convenient. The highlight is the unbeatable view of Inuyama Castle, which you can see from both the room and the rotenburo (open-air bath)! With the Kiso River flowing right in front, it's incredibly peaceful. The multi-course kaiseki dinner was a culinary delight, featuring amazing dishes like grilled salmon with hoba miso. Highly recommended.

Gero Onsen Suimeikan

1268 Koden

  • For the Discerning Traveler: Exceptional Onsen & Exquisite Cuisine

  • This is our top recommendation for anyone looking to fully enjoy both the incredible hot springs of Gero and a world of diverse gourmet options. You can soak to your heart's content in the famous, skin-smoothing "Bijin-no-Yu" (Waters of the Beautiful) across three grand bathhouses, each with its own unique atmosphere. After you've relaxed, an array of dining choices awaits. Depending on your mood, you can opt for an authentic kaiseki dinner featuring premium Hida beef, or visit the hotel's elegant French and Chinese restaurants. For the traveler on a Nagoya food tour who refuses to compromise on hotel dining, this is the perfect choice.

  • Escape the Ordinary with Breathtaking Ocean Views

  • If you're searching for an onsen inn to leave the everyday world behind, Genjiko is the answer. Here, you can have a private viewing of the vast Ise Bay from most guest rooms and the scenic open-air bath. Watch as the scenery transforms throughout the day, from the sea shimmering under the sun to the beautiful sunset sinking below the horizon. Adding to the unique charm, the inn and its rooms are beautifully themed after "The Tale of Genji," the world's oldest novel, wrapping your stay in timeless elegance.

Akariya Geihanro

41-6 Kitakoken, Inuyama, Inuyama-shi

  • Enjoy the Onsen and the Scenery in Complete Privacy

  • This private inn offers a truly singular experience: the opportunity to gaze upon the National Treasure, Inuyama Castle, from the intimacy of your room. The view from the open-air bath, overlooking the castle as it towers above the Kiso River, is a special panorama that can be witnessed from this inn alone. In addition to the semi-open-air baths in each guest room, a separate, fully private open-air bath is also available for reservation. In each setting, you can indulge in the skin-beautifying natural onsen in absolute privacy, savoring the distinct and magnificent castle views.

Hotel Takeshima

1-6 Takeshima-Cho, Gamagori

  • An all-ocean view hotel located an hour away from Nagoya

  • We recommend this hotel in Gamagori Onsen, where you can enjoy a hot spring bath and do some sightseeing. It's easy to get to from Nagoya Station, taking about an hour. They also provide a free shuttle from Gamagori Station. Mikawa Bay stretches out in front of the hotel, and you can see the ocean from the guest rooms, large communal bath, and open-air bath, which is very beautiful and relaxing. The hot spring water is good for your skin, and you can also choose a room with an open-air bath. Near the hotel, there are tourist spots such as the resort complex Laguna Ten Bosch, Takeshima, and Takeshima Aquarium.

Usyounoie Sugiyama Hotel

73-1 Nagara, Gifu

  • A Japanese-style inn on the banks of the Nagara River in Gifu Prefecture

  • The inn is located about an hour from JR Nagoya Station. In stark contrast to the city of Nagoya, this inn is located on the top of Mt. Kinka, on the gentle flow of the clear Nagara River. From the open-air bath, which boasts a view of Gifu Castle and the best scenery along the Nagara River, you can also enjoy the scenery from the large open-air bath, where high-quality hot spring water flows to the brim, creating a sense of openness. As the inn is designated as a nationally important cultural landscape, "Gifu's Cultural Landscape in the Midstream Area of the Nagara River," the view from the rooms is also soothing. Some rooms have open-air baths, and the meals are kaiseki cuisine, unique to an inn run by a family of cormorant fishermen who eat rare wild sweetfish from the Nagara River.

17-18 Hazama, Toyohama, Minamichita-chō, Chita-gun

  • Chita Peninsula gourmet food and panoramic baths

  • Minamichita Onsen is a recommended hot spring resort, located about 1.5 hours by train from Nagoya, with good views from all hotels. There is a free shuttle from the nearest station, Meitetsu Kawa Station, so it is easy to get to even without a car. The large public bath has an observation bath, which is a pleasant bath with a view of Ise Bay. If your budget allows, there are rooms with open-air baths, from which you can also enjoy the ocean view. You can also enjoy luxurious seafood such as abalone and spiny lobster, which are Chita Peninsula specialty delicacies, and it is sure to be a great memory to combine with your sightseeing in Nagoya.

Ishikin Ryokan

112, Nagara

  • An inn boasting views of the Nagara River and Mt. Kinka

  • It's in Gifu Prefecture, but it's convenient because it's about an hour by train from Nagoya Station. There are about 14 rooms, but the views of the Nagara River and Kinka Mountain are wonderful. You can also see Gifu Castle from the open-air bath. It's a reasonable inn with a room rate of around 10,000 yen, where you can relax without being too pretentious.
