• This is a hot spring Ryokan (Japanese inn) located along the mountain stream of Nikko Kinugawa Onsen. The rooms have great views, so I recommend it. Some rooms have an open-air bath. In addition to the fantastic indoor bath, there is also an open-air bath, so you can enjoy the famous hot springs of Kinugawa. For meals, we enjoyed local delicacies such as salt-grilled sweetfish and venison. In the snowy season, you can see the mountains covered in snow, which is a beautiful sight.

• How about "Bettei Sasane"? All rooms are designed to overlook the Kinugawa Valley. In addition, all rooms have a semi-open-air bath that is full of atmosphere. After taking a bath, you can sit on a chair on the terrace of your room and take a rest. This quiet Ryokan (Japanese inn) with only 16 rooms is popular with many repeat customers, and the quality of the staff and service, including hospitality, are excellent.

• This is a 5-star inn with over 100 years of history. The facilities are extensive, and you can enjoy a view of the snow from the open-air garden bath halfway up Nakayama. The large public bath is spacious, so you can relax while enjoying the mountain scenery without worrying about your surroundings. There are also large Japanese-style and Western-style rooms that can accommodate 5-7 people, so even large groups can stay in the same room. All rooms have hot spring water, so you can enjoy the hot spring water in your room.

You can enjoy the view of snow piled up on the tree branches and the frozen Kinugawa River from the open-air bath and the large public bath. For breakfast, bread is baked in-house every morning. The average room is a 10-tatami Japanese-style room, but it felt spacious.

• This 14-story high-rise hotel stands along the Kinugawa River valley, and there are no buildings on the opposite bank, so the view from the rooms and the open-air baths was simply amazing. Dinner was Buffet of Japanese, Western and Chinese food, and the dishes made with seasonal ingredients were lined up, so I ended up eating too much.

• Of the 18 rooms, most have an open-air bath. You can see the valley and mountain stream of the Kinugawa River below. However, since it is not a hot spring, you can stay there for a little over 20,000 yen per person for a standard kaiseki meal. The open-air bath can be used from early in the morning to late at night. The large public bath and the open-air bath are connected, so it is easy to move between them, and you can relax by looking at the trees in the forest. Meals include mountain produce, meat and vegetables from Tochigi, and seafood delivered directly from Boso. There is also an esthetic room.
