Many tourist spots around Kanazawa Station, including Kenrokuen, are accessed via Omicho Market, so it's convenient for sightseeing. You can get there by bus or taxi from Kanazawa Station, but you can also walk there. I actually walked to Omicho Market in about 15 minutes, and the sidewalks were wide so it wasn't too difficult. You can also get to Kenrokuen by bus in about 7 minutes. There are more than 10 buses per hour, so it's very convenient.
