  • Ryokan Aura Tachibana
  • Seeking the Best "Beauty Onsen" in Hakone? Your Guide to Amazing Hot Springs!

My sister and I are planning a trip to Japan and want to visit Hakone Onsen, which is super close to Tokyo. We're really hoping to find a hot spring with water that's great for the skin. Any recommendations for ryokans or hotels with "beauty onsen" qualities? We'd especially love places with open-air baths!

  • Enjoy Beautiful Skin Hot Springs in Scenic Private Baths

  • How about Ryokan Aura Tachibana? This ryokan has an abundant supply of hot spring water with skin-beautifying effects flowing throughout the building. Not only can you enjoy the large public baths (which include an open-air bath and a sauna!), but there are also private open-air baths with incredible views that you can reserve. If you stay in a room with a private open-air bath, you can enjoy a relaxing soak anytime you like! The rooms are traditional Japanese-style with tatami mats, but if you're not a fan of sleeping on a futon, they also have rooms with two single beds. There's a free shuttle bus from the nearest Hakone-Yumoto Station, but it's also a pleasant 15-minute walk. I recommend strolling through the shopping street in front of the station and enjoying the atmosphere of the onsen town surrounded by nature as you make your way to the ryokan.

  • Enjoy the grand panorama of Hakone from the private open-air observation bath.

  • This stylish resort Ryokan (Japanese inn) is located on a hill in Hakone Yumoto. It has a sky terrace with a great view, and on clear days you can enjoy the Hakone scenery in a very pleasant atmosphere. The large public bath is spacious, bright, and open, and is equipped with an open-air bath, jacuzzi, utase-yu(a stream of hot water falling down on your shoulders like a small waterfall), and sauna. There is also a private open-air bath with a view, so you can bathe in private. Depending on your budget, you can also stay in a room with an open-air bath with a natural hot spring. For dinner, you can enjoy a creative kaiseki meal called "Beppin Ryori" made with local seasonal ingredients. Breakfast is a healthy Japanese set meal made with 40 different ingredients, and delicious dishes include blue crab miso soup and bagna cauda made with fresh vegetables.
