Recommendations for a clean inn in Nikko with a free-flowing onsen?
My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Nikko. We'd love to experience an authentic onsen and are specifically looking for a place with a gensen kakenagashi (a hot spring with free-flowing water direct from the source). We're hoping to find a reasonably priced inn or hotel. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

                    - If you're looking for an affordable onsen inn in Nikko, I'd recommend Hotel Shikisai. Its main charm is the outdoor bath (rotenburo), completely surrounded by the vast nature of Oku-Nikko. The water is a milky-white sulfur spring, and part of the authentic experience is its distinctive, classic onsen aroma. There's nothing quite like soaking in the hot spring while enveloped by the forest trees. On clear nights, you might even be treated to a sky full of stars, which is sure to become a wonderful memory of your trip. It's the perfect way to relax both your mind and body.モモンガ's answer (Posted on:2025/10/14)

A Superb Onsen Inn: Perfect as a Base for Sightseeing
 - I think Hotel Shikisai would be a perfect match for what you're looking for. It's recommended for couples who prioritize an authentic onsen experience and quiet time over sheer luxury. The natural sulfur spring of the historic Chuzenji Onsen will warm you right to the core. The hotel is located near Lake Chuzenji, making it an incredibly convenient base for sightseeing. Soaking in the onsen after a long day of exploring is the ultimate little luxury. It's rare to find a hotel where you can enjoy an onsen of this quality at this price point—it’s an incredible value.オコジョ's answer (Posted on:2025/10/14)

I've actually used it and can see how good it is!
 - The bright and spacious entrance gives a feeling of freedom. You can choose a room with a sunken kotatsu. Delicious food made with local ingredients. The sulfur spring, which is said to be good for the skin, is sure to give you smooth skin. The hotel is a little independent guest cottages from Nikko, but it is worth it.旅に行こう's answer (Posted on:2014/6/ 4)
