Recommendations for a clean inn in Nikko with a free-flowing onsen?
My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Nikko. We'd love to experience an authentic onsen and are specifically looking for a place with a gensen kakenagashi (a hot spring with free-flowing water direct from the source). We're hoping to find a reasonably priced inn or hotel. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

                    - I highly recommend the Chuzenji Kanaya Hotel. Their onsen is a milky-white sulfur spring, with the water drawn from the Yumoto source in Oku-Nikko, a full 12 kilometers away! Soaking in the outdoor bath (rotenburo), surrounded by the serene forests of Oku-Nikko, is the ultimate way to relax. The indoor bath is wonderful too, enclosed by massive windows that let you enjoy the view in a spacious setting. It's the perfect hotel for a couple to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and truly unwind together.たいやき's answer (Posted on:2025/10/14)

A Romantic Lodge with a Classic Log Cabin Feel
 - If you're looking to enjoy a classic atmosphere in Nikko, the Chuzenji Kanaya Hotel is a wonderful choice. It's a charming, Western-style hotel that feels like a lovely mountain lodge or log cabin. The onsen is the real deal: an authentic gensen kakenagashi (free-flowing) spring. The water is milky-white with a distinct sulfur aroma, and it will warm you right to your core. In the evening, they light a fire in the lounge fireplace, which creates an incredibly romantic ambiance. It offers a unique twist on the typical onsen ryokan experience and is sure to make for a very special memory.ござる's answer (Posted on:2025/10/14)

A Classic Hotel with a Superb Onsen and Even Better Food

I recommend the Chuzenji Kanaya Hotel for anyone who wants to enjoy both a great onsen and incredible food. While the onsen is absolutely fantastic, the hotel is also famous for its French dinner. The dishes are made using traditional recipes that you can only experience at a historic hotel like this, and they are truly exquisite. And since it's located right on the shores of Lake Chuzenji, taking a stroll along the lake in the morning is a wonderfully refreshing way to start your day.トワ's answer (Posted on:2025/10/14)

The open-air bath with 100% natural hot spring is the best
 - It may be a little pricey, but I definitely recommend this hotel. Located on the shores of Lake Chuzenji, the historic Kanaya Hotel offers excellent service. The rooms have balconies, and you can see the lake through the trees. Across the hallway from the building is the large public bath, where you can enjoy the milky, sulfurous hot spring waters of Yumoto Onsen. There is also an open-air bath. The meals are full-course French cuisine, and are recommended for couples' trips and anniversary trips.kinopy's answer (Posted on:2014/6/ 4)
