  • Noboribetsu Onsen Dai-ichi Takimotokan
  • Seeking recommendations for family-friendly hotels in Hokkaido to experience its stunning nature and hidden onsen gems, all for under ¥20,000 a night?

We're planning a family trip to Hokkaido to enjoy its nature and secluded hot springs. Can you recommend any hotels that have an open-air bath (rotenburo) with beautiful nature views and authentic natural spring water?

Noboribetsu Onsen Dai-ichi Takimotokan

55 Noboribetsu-onsen, Noboribetsu

  • A Spectacular Open-Air Bath Overlooking Jigokudani (Hell Valley)

  • The appeal of Dai-ichi Takimotokan's hot springs goes beyond the sheer variety of its baths. Right in front of the open-air bath lies the rugged landscape of Jigokudani ("Hell Valley"), the source of Noboribetsu's famous onsen water. The billowing steam and the distinct aroma of sulfur create a powerful and immersive hot spring experience. Soaking in the onsen while gazing at the stark mountainside by day and the magically illuminated valley by night offers a rustic, secluded bathing adventure unlike any other.

  • Experience the Rich Benefits of Five Different Types of Hot Springs

  • Dai-ichi Takimotokan is home to five different types of hot spring water, the largest variety in Noboribetsu Onsen. This is one of the few places in Japan where you can experience a range of authentic hot springs all at once, each with its own unique color, aroma, and therapeutic benefits—including waters for beautiful skin, for healing, and for deep, lasting warmth. Feel the differences on your skin like an "Onsen Sommelier," comparing the distinct qualities of each spring. By the end of the day, you'll have the pleasure of finding your own favorite onsen to match your mood and condition.

  • Experience an Onsen of Unparalleled Scale and Variety

  • The hot springs at Noboribetsu's Dai-ichi Takimotokan are on a scale that surpasses the standard hotel, earning it the nickname "the department store of onsen." Spanning an impressive 5,000 square meters (approx. 54,000 sq ft), the grand bathing hall features an amazing array of 35 different baths. From a bath with a cascading waterfall to a traditional cypress bath and relaxing lie-down baths, it feels as though a new discovery awaits around every corner. It's truly an onsen theme park where the whole family can enjoy the best onsen-hopping tour in Hokkaido, all without leaving the hotel.

  • A Hokkaido hotel where you can have a drink in the open-air bath

  • Noboribetsu Onsen is probably the most famous hot spring in Hokkaido, but I recommend this place because the large public bath is spacious and the quality of the water is good, so you can relax. There is also a service where you can enjoy alcoholic and soft drinks in the open-air bath, which is something you can hardly experience at other inns. Not only can you relax, but you can also have meals in your room, which is luxurious. There is also a table tennis and games corner on the premises, so children will not get bored.
