I recommend "Tsutsui" on Ikuchijima Island near Onomichi. I hope you can imagine a traditional Ryokan (Japanese inn). There is a small port nearby, so you can feel the atmosphere of Setouchi. For meals, a wide variety of fresh Setouchi seafood is served.

Imabari Urban Hotel is located just in front of Imabari Station, making it a great base for biking the Shimanami Kaidō. They have a main building and a newer annex. The annex has twin rooms where you’re allowed to bring your bike into the room, plus there's a cycle stand at the front desk — very cyclist‑friendly. The main building offers free breakfast but no twin rooms; the annex has twin rooms but breakfast is not free. For cost performance, the annex twin room represents good value, so I’d recommend staying in the annex.

Homey inn with a large communal bath

広島の瀬戸田中心街にある旅館です。自転車じゃなくバイクですが泊まったことがあります。宿泊料金が若干高いのですが、アットホームな和やかな旅館です。従業員さんが案内してくれて、軒の下に駐輪させてくれました。大浴場もあるのでサイクリングの疲れも癒してくれるでしょう。平日の素泊まりでしたら、格安プランがありますよ。

せっかくに日本に来てしまなみ海道を旅するなら日本の銭湯を体験するのはどうでしょう？yubuneは生口島にあるホテルで、館内に銭湯があり、地元の人もお風呂に入りに来ます。ジャグジー風呂やサウナ、水風呂もあるのでサイクリングした後にゆっくりお風呂やサウナに入れます。部屋はツイン利用で、畳に布団を敷いて寝るのですが、自転車をそのまま部屋に持ち込むことができます。住所は尾道ですが、生口島なので自然に囲まれた離島でバケーションを過ごす気分になれますよ。なお、大三島へサイクリングに行くと、帰りは自転車ごと海上タクシーを使って15分くらいで帰ってくることができます。人数で割り勘すればひとり3,000～4,000円くらいで面白い経験ができますよ。

サイクリング後にこちらの休暇村でゆっくり過ごすのはいかがでしょうか。夕食はバイキングだが、刺身が4~5種類出ます。つい先日行ったときは、鯛、カンパチ、カジキマグロ、生かつお、かつおのたたき、いかそうめんと６種類もあった。これが食べ放題。ほかにも色々な料理が出る。ひうちなだ温泉の大浴場や露天風呂もある。露天風呂からは西日本最高峰の石鎚山が見えて絶景です。

If you want to rest on the way to the Shimanami Kaido, Innoshima is a good choice. This inn is located in Innoshima Park and has a very spacious room, so you can relax. I stayed in a twin room, so I think I stayed in that room when I was alone, but it was quiet and I was able to relax. The large public bath is an observation bath where you can enjoy the view outside, so you can relax.

Sawaki Ryokan: A Relaxing Inn in Imabari

I used to travel to the Shimanami area for work, and I've stayed at various inns, but Sawaki Ryokan, located right next to Oyamazumi Shrine on Omishima Island, was one of the best. It's a very humble, down-to-earth inn. I remember the seafood dinner being delicious. They also have a private bath, which was very relaxing.

Close to Onomichi Station

The hotel is a 2-3 minute drive from JR Onomichi Station, or about 10 minutes from Shin-Onomichi Station. There is also a shuttle bus available with prior reservation. It is convenient for heading to the Shimanami Kaido. The accommodation cost was around 10,000 yen per person. The breakfast was also very delicious, made with local ingredients.
