  • Sendai trip: Best Ryokan/Hotel for amazing "Gyutan" (Beef Tongue)?

Planning a foodie trip to Sendai, Japan. My main goal is "Gyutan" (beef tongue). I'm looking for a hotel or ryokan that serves really delicious Gyutan (maybe in-house?). Any recommendations for the best place to stay for this?

  • This hotel is located 5-6 minutes walk from Sendai Station. Although there is no dinner in the hotel, I recommend the plan to eat charcoal grilled beef tongue at the very famous beef tongue restaurant "Rikyu" nearby. If you go to Sendai, you have to try this beef tongue because it is so delicious. The rooms are also clean, comfortable and reasonably priced.

  • I think that beef tongue in Sendai is more delicious at a beef tongue specialty restaurant than at the hotel. So I think it's better to skip dinner at the hotel and go out to eat. After dinner, it's nice to have a drink in the Westin Hotel lounge and look at the night view of Sendai. The lounge also serves light meals using beef tongue.

  • In Sendai, beef tongue is almost always eaten at specialty restaurants. The most famous ones are "Tasuke", "Ki", "(with three sevens) Suke" and "Rikyu". The main store and branch of "Tasuke" are in Kokubuncho, so we recommend this hotel in that area. Kokubuncho is a downtown area, so if you want a quiet hotel stay, you might want to stay a little independent guest cottages, such as the "Mitsui Urban Hotel".
