  • A friend of mine overseas is looking for a hot spring inn with a kotatsu.

My friend in India loves Japanese culture and especially wants to experience a kotatsu. Are there any hot spring inns where we can use a kotatsu? Either a sunken kotatsu or a regular kotatsu is fine. There seem to be few of them, so we are looking for one all over the country. Please let me know your recommendations.

Hayamakan

Hayama 5-10

  • A luxurious hot spring inn with a kotatsu!

  • You can stay in a spacious room with a sunken kotatsu table that is connected to two other rooms. Meals are served in a private dining room, and include Japanese kaiseki-style cuisine that makes use of seasonal ingredients from Yamagata, including Yamagata beef. Of course, you can also enjoy the hot springs.

  • This is an inn where you can stay in rooms equipped with sunken kotatsu tables.

  • In winter, you can choose a room with a sunken kotatsu table, which will please your friends. The rooms have a stylish Japanese-modern atmosphere, allowing you to relax comfortably. You can enjoy a wide variety of hot springs, including an kaiseki(a traditional Japanese multiple course meal )made with seasonal ingredients, so please enjoy Japanese cuisine.

Nakaya Ryokan

  • There are two open-air baths in the sky and a kotatsu in the room from December to March!

  • At night, you can see the starry sky from the two open-air baths. When it snows heavily, there is an indoor large bath and two private baths, so you don't have to worry about snow. Kotatsu tables are provided in the rooms in winter. As for meals, breakfast is served Buffet style, and Japanese, Western, and Chinese food are available for dinner, so I think it can accommodate people from any country.

Kyo-Ohmi

Ogoto 6-5-1

  • Visit Lake Biwa and Ogoto Onsen while in Kyoto

  • Ogoto Onsen is a great place to enjoy both a trip to Kyoto and a hot spring, and if you stay here you can do more than just sightseeing in Kyoto; we recommend it because you can also do some sightseeing around Lake Biwa. Lake Biwa Grand Hotel has luxurious rooms with an open-air hot spring bath, an indoor bath, and a sunken kotatsu! The price is a little high, but for foreigners who don't like being seen naked, the open-air bath in the room means you can enjoy a hot spring bath whenever you like while looking out at Lake Biwa. For meals, you can enjoy a kaiseki meal with Omi beef steak as the main dish at the restaurant.
