  • Fuji Lake Hotel
  • Looking for a Ryokan with an Outdoor Bath and Mount Fuji Views for New Year's in Japan!

I'm planning a trip to Japan with my mother. I'm really looking forward to experiencing a winter onsen (hot spring) bath in the cold Japanese winter and seeing the snow-covered Mount Fuji from the hotel. Could you please recommend a traditional inn (ryokan) or hotel that offers open-air baths, has a view of Mount Fuji, and ideally serves special New Year's dishes (Osechi or other traditional Japanese cuisine)?

Fuji Lake Hotel

  • An Exclusive Experience: Rooms with Stunning Mount Fuji Views and Private Onsen

  • I highly recommend Fuji Lake Hotel. If you book a Mount Fuji-view room, you can even gaze at the mountain while enjoying your bath. For a truly exceptional stay, consider upgrading to a room with a private open-air bath (rotenburo). These premium rooms often feature a traditional tatami-mat room, a sunken heated table (horigotatsu), and magnificent views of Mount Fuji not only from the room itself but also from your private rotenburo—it's the epitome of luxury and relaxation! If you opt for a dinner-inclusive plan, you'll be treated to a seasonal kaiseki (traditional multi-course Japanese dinner). Be sure to ask for counter seats at the "Akajuji" restaurant; the chef prepares your meal right in front of you, allowing you to appreciate not just the delicious flavors, but also the exquisite artistry of the presentation!

Hotel Kaneyamaen

9-1-18 Kamiyoshidahigashi, Fujiyoshida-City, Yamanashi, Japan

  • Absolutely Breathtaking, Uninterrupted Mount Fuji Views from the Open-Air Baths!

  • If you want to spend the New Year holiday gazing at Mount Fuji, Kaneyamaen is the top choice! The hotel’s open-air bath is uniquely structured in three tiers, and from the very top level, you get a completely unobstructed, absolutely beautiful view of Mount Fuji. If you stay between January 2nd and 3rd, your dinner will be a special New Year's Kaiseki (traditional multi-course meal)! The hotel also hosts a Wadaiko (Japanese drumming) show every evening, with special performances during the New Year period. Just a heads-up: while Japanese hotel prices are higher around the New Year's holiday, they still book up fast, so make your reservation as early as possible!

Bessho Sasa Hotel

9-1-18 kamiyoshidahigashi, Fujiyoshida-city

  • Limited-Time New Year's Plans Available! Enjoy a Private Onsen with Fuji Views

  • Bessho Sasa Hotel is an exceptional place located right at the foot of Mount Fuji. What makes it so special is that you can view the majestic mountain right from the open-air bath that comes with your room—and it’s a natural hot spring (onsen) bath! If you book a meal plan for a stay on January 2nd, your dinner will be an exclusive Special Kaiseki! Guests can also enjoy Kakizome (a traditional New Year's custom of the first calligraphy writing of the year) and watch traditional performing arts shows, making it a perfect recommendation for anyone wanting to fully immerse themselves in the Japanese New Year experience. It’s conveniently located about a 10-minute bus ride from Fujisan Station.

Fuji View Hotel

511 Katsuyama, Fujikawaguchiko-machi, Minamitsuru-gun,

  • A Tranquil Retreat: Historic Hotel with Expansive Gardens

  • This hotel is a wonderful retreat, set apart from the more crowded tourist areas, offering a calm and relaxing atmosphere that is a welcome change from the typical bustle of the Kawaguchiko lakeside. The expansive gardens and the history of the hotel truly set it apart. While you won't be able to enjoy a bath with a Mount Fuji view here, I was still very satisfied with my stay. They do, however, offer rooms that have a Mount Fuji view!.

Hotel Mt. Fuji

1360-83 Yamanaka, Yamanakako-mura, Minamitsuru-gun,Yamanashi Prefecture

  • Luxury Resort Overlooking Mount Fuji and Lake Yamanaka

  • How about this resort located in the Lake Yamanaka area? Fun fact: because the area immediately around Mount Fuji didn't originally have many traditional hot springs, many inns don't actually feature open-air baths. However, since Hotel Mt. Fuji is located on a hilltop, it boasts an open-air bath with an exceptionally beautiful view. If the weather is on your side, you will witness a truly spectacular Mount Fuji. The hotel is close to Lake Yamanaka, and they even provide a shuttle bus service to the lake.

Hotel Hagoromo

Shimizu-ku Miho 1282-1

  • Experience Japanese Culture: Mount Fuji from Miho no Matsubara

  • While viewing Mount Fuji up close is great, I highly recommend seeing it paired with Miho no Matsubara (Miho Pine Grove), which is part of the Mount Fuji UNESCO World Heritage site, as it truly enhances the sense of Japanese culture. This inn, located adjacent to the famous Hagoromo-no-Matsu (Pine Tree of the Feathered Robe), features a vast Japanese garden and traditional Japanese architecture, making it the perfect place to fully immerse yourself in authentic Japan.

Rembrandt Premium FujiGotemba

  • Enjoy Mount Fuji Views Right from Your Room.

  • This hotel allows you to enjoy views of Mount Fuji right from your room. It’s conveniently located—only about a 5-minute drive from the Gotemba I.C. if you’re driving, or a 10-minute taxi ride from Gotemba Station if you’re taking the train. It's a very clean and lovely hotel, and of course, it has an open-air bath (rotenburo)!

Hotel Green Plaza Hakone

Sengokuhara 1244-2

  • Hakone Hotel with Panoramic Mount Fuji Views from the Open-Air Bath

  • This hotel is incredibly convenient, being just a 5-minute walk from the Hakone Ropeway station. You can choose between a Japanese-style (washitsu) or a Western-style room. Both the Japanese/Western-style dinner and the buffet breakfast are delicious. Crucially, the open-air baths for both men and women offer a view of Mount Fuji while you are soaking. The view of Mount Fuji from the women’s open-air bath is said to be especially spectacular!

Ohito Hotel

Yoshida 1178

  • Affordable Stay with an Outdoor Bath and Spectacular Fuji Views

  • The Mount Fuji view from the open-air bath here is simply spectacular—that is the highlight! The open-air bath is very spacious, and if the weather is clear, it should be a truly comfortable and refreshing experience. The accommodation fees are also relatively affordable. They offer a shuttle service from the nearest station, Ohito Station, so it would be a good idea to contact them beforehand to arrange a pickup!

Fugakugunjo

  • Luxury Suite Living: Every Room Offers a Perfect View of Mount Fuji

  • If you are determined to stay in an inn with a Mount Fuji view, I highly recommend Fugakugunjo (富岳群青) in Nishi-Izu (West Izu). You can see a beautiful view of Mount Fuji from the large open-air bath, and even better, every single room offers a straight-on, clear view of Mount Fuji!

Kyukamura Fuji

634 Saori

  • Unforgettable Giant Fuji Views: Lakeside Resort with a View of 'Diamond Fuji'

  • I have stayed at many inns with Mount Fuji views, but none have left such a lasting impression as this one. Kyukamura Fuji Hotel, situated on the western shore of Lake Tanuki, allows you to see the Giant Fuji and the reflected image of the mountain on the lake—the "Upside-Down Fuji" (Sakasa Fuji)—from every room and the open-air bath! This view of Mount Fuji is truly awe-inspiring. The rates are very reasonable, and both dinner and breakfast are served buffet-style, allowing you to choose whatever dishes you like. The location is superb! If you wake up early, you can take a walk on the path around the lake, which takes about an hour to complete. The crisp, clean morning air perfectly complements the majestic view of Mount Fuji, making for a refreshing walk. It is highly popular with families traveling with children. Near the inn, there is a nature museum where you can learn about the local natural environment. There is also a campsite nearby, allowing for a direct experience with rich nature.
