Best Kyoto Hotels for Shrine & Temple Tours: Top Budget Picks
I'm traveling to Kyoto with a friend for a 3-day shrine and temple tour. We're looking for a convenient, budget-friendly hotel, with a budget of around ¥8,000 per person per night. What are your recommendations?
20Hotel rankings chosen by people
- The Toyoko Inn chain is always clean and functional, making it a reliable base for any trip. There was enough space to organize our luggage, and it was comfortable for two people. Since the Randen (tram) station is right there, taking a unique route to the Arashiyama sightseeing area was a lot of fun. If you're a first-time visitor to Kyoto worried about complicated transportation, this is definitely the place to stay.おゆきち's answer (Posted on:2025/9/29)

Best value for money Kyoto hotels: Free breakfast and easy access to temples
- The free breakfast service was perfect for us, who wanted to save money on travel expenses. The menu was simple, with rice balls and miso soup, but the savings on breakfast were huge! The Shijo-Omiya location means there are more restaurants than around Kyoto Station, and the good thing about it is that you can stay for cheaper in the evenings. Considering the price and service, I don't think you can find a better value hotel.のんのん's answer (Posted on:2025/9/29)

A great budget base for sightseeing in Kyoto: Direct buses to temples and shrines are convenient
- The biggest advantage of this hotel is the bus stop right in front of it. This time, I visited a wide area, including Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Kinkaku-ji Temple, and Arashiyama, and the buses to the major tourist spots came one after another, so travelling was really smooth. The Hankyu train station is also very close, so it's easy to get to the center of Kyoto (Kawaramachi). The price is reasonable, and the transportation is so convenient that I'll definitely return next time.saki_旅行好き's answer (Posted on:2025/9/29)

A must-have for a stay after sightseeing in Kyoto! A large public bath where you can enjoy onsen(hot spring) feeling after a long day of sightseeing
- After walking around Kyoto for three days, the large public bath at night was a real lifesaver. While a hotel in that price range doesn't have an open-air bath, having a large public bath where you can stretch your legs is the ultimate reward. After the bath, I was able to relax in my room or the lounge, so I felt refreshed and not carried any travel fatigue into the next day! I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is exhausted from visiting temples and shrines.kanata's answer (Posted on:2025/9/29)

The perfect base for visiting Kyoto's temples and shrines: quiet, convenient, and close to the main station
- It's really close to Kyoto Station's Hachijo Exit, so accessibility was excellent. This time, our goal was to visit Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Fushimi Inari Shrine, so the location with easy access to the JR and subway was perfect! As it's an adults-only hotel, the best thing about it was that it was quiet and peaceful at night. Even with a busy sightseeing schedule, being able to move around quickly early in the morning is an advantage that business hotels don't have.すらりん's answer (Posted on:2025/9/29)

The closest hotel to JR Kyoto Station Hachijo Exit (Shinkansen Exit)
- This hotel is easily accessible, just a few minutes walk from JR Kyoto Station Hachijo Exit after getting off the Shinkansen. The twin rooms in the main building are inexpensive but a bit small, so if you splurge a little and get a South Wing room, you'll enjoy a comfortable space of about 23 square meters. If you use the one-day free pass for the subway and city bus, you can visit most of the temples and shrines in the city at a low cost. It is also convenient that reception desk will store your luggage after you check out.ユーザー's answer (Posted on:2014/6/ 4)

Hotels with easy access to Higashiyama area
- The Higashiyama area of Kyoto is an area with many shrines and temples, but hotels are expensive and there are few places to stay for under 10,000 yen. However, this hotel is not only convenient to the Higashiyama area, but is also cheap, so I recommend it. I have stayed there before and the interior was beautiful. The best location! APA Hotel, convenient for sightseeing
- It's just a short walk to Yasaka Shrine and Hanamikoji Street, so I was able to enjoy the quiet morning hours and the beautiful illuminated Kyoto cityscape at night. It's also within walking distance of major tourist spots in the Higashiyama area, such as Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Kodai-ji Temple, so I didn't have to take the city bus and was able to use my time efficiently. The hotel itself has the compact and functional design that you expect from an APA Hotel. The room wasn't large, but it was clean and comfortable. I highly recommend this hotel for those who prioritize location and affordability as a base for sightseeing. For those who don't require special services and just want a clean and convenient place to sleep, I feel this hotel won't disappoint.すらりん's answer (Posted on:2025/8/ 7)

Located in the center of Kyoto, the hotel also has a large natural hot spring bath on the top floor.
- We stayed here for two nights on a family trip over New Year's last year. It is located in Karasuma-Sanjo in downtown Kyoto, and is close to both the Karasuma Line and the Tozai Line subways. There is also a large natural hot spring bath on the top floor of the hotel, which is a paid service, so you can relax there. It was also relatively affordable.かずぽん's answer (Posted on:2014/6/ 4)

Budget hotel with natural hot spring
- It's relatively newer than other budget hotels, the rooms are clean, the futons are fluffy and comfortable, and I think it's a comfortable hotel to stay in. I recommend it because you can take a dip in the natural hot springs after getting tired from walking around the shrines and temples! For two people in one room, it will cost less than 8,000 yen per night, depending on the season.ユーザー's answer (Posted on:2014/6/ 4)

The hotel is located in front of Kyoto Station.
- This hotel is located in front of Kyoto Station. It takes about 1-2 minutes on foot from the Hachijo Exit. It is in a great location for sightseeing in Kyoto. The rooms are Western-style and are carefully cleaned. There are so many options for food nearby that it's hard to choose. Breakfast is Buffet style and is Western food. I think you will be satisfied with the content. It's also just right for your budget.ユーザー's answer (Posted on:2014/6/ 4)

A hotel near Kawaramachi with convenient transportation
- If you want to see a wide range of shrines and temples, I recommend the area along Kawaramachi from Sanjo to Shijo, which has good transport links. There are plenty of train and bus services, and it's the busiest area in Kyoto, so you won't have any trouble finding food or ways to kill time. However, I wouldn't recommend this place if you're coming by car, but if you're coming by train, this hotel is a good choice.kaba's answer (Posted on:2014/6/ 4)
