Yamagata Onsen recs? Need good Jizake (sake) & easy access.
Headed to Japan (Yamagata, sake region) w/ my American friend. He loves Nihonshu. Need an onsen inn (ryokan?) known for good local sake (Jizake). Needs easy access (public transport/shuttle). Taxi is also an option.

- The purely Japanese atmosphere is very nice, and the furnishings are decorated with crafts that have been passed down for generations, so I think my friend from America will be pleased. This well-established inn was founded over 300 years ago and stocks sake from similarly well-established sake breweries!
- As the inn has maintained its traditional, historic form as much as possible, it does not have a large bathtub, but there are nine smaller, more atmospheric baths, both indoors and outdoors, for your enjoyment. There is also a private bath, but this is available for a fee. How about taking a dip in the hot springs, eating some potato stew, and enjoying some local sake?
- Since he is from America, I think he will be happy to be able to enjoy both Japanese and Western styles. When I stayed here before, he contacted me the day before and canceled, so I was able to stay in a room with a tatami bed, one level higher, for the same price. The hot springs, both indoor and outdoor, were excellent, with good water. For dinner, I enjoyed local sake (Otokoyama? Maybe not, but it's a good sake with a name similar to that) with Yamagata's specialty potato stew. Even though I don't like potatoes, I enjoyed it.
