• After experiencing the sand bath, there is a hot spring on the top floor of the hotel where you can wash off the sand. The view is outstanding. You can also enjoy a Hawaiian show at night and, depending on the season, digging potatoes in the garden (dig a box full for 1,000 yen!). There is also a bowling alley, so the whole family can have fun even if the weather is bad.

• It is difficult to enjoy both the sand bath and the view of Sakurajima at the same time. I recommend the Ibusuki Iwasaki Hotel for the sand bath hot spring experience. Kirishima Onsen is probably the only inn where you can see Sakurajima. The other hot springs are on flat land or in the mountains. You will need to check with the inn whether you can see Kirishima Onsen from the window. I think you will use Kagoshima Airport for the round trip, but it is difficult to travel between Kirishima and Ibusuki because they are independent guest cottages.
