  • Echigo-Yuzawa trip (3 adults). Ryokan w/ in-room bath & snow view?

Headed to Echigo-Yuzawa (Niigata) from Saitama for a quick trip (Sunday night stay). We are 3 adults looking for a ryokan with a private in-room bath (Rotenburo or view bath) to enjoy the snowy mountain scenery. Budget is around 30,000 yen pp. Note: We are smokers, so a Smoking Room is preferred. Any recommendations?

Hotel Futaba

419 Yuzawa, Yuzawa, Minamiuonuma-gun

  • There are rooms with open-air baths.

  • I stayed here before for a company ski-related event. There was a room with an open-air bath. (According to the inn's website, the open-air bath attached to the room is not a hot spring.) The open-air bath in the large communal bath had a great view, as the inn is located on a hill.

  • There are various hot springs within the hotel.

  • There are about 20 types of baths to enjoy. There are also reclining Lying-down bath, standing baths, herbal baths, and saunas. There is also an open-air observation bath, which feels great in the morning. The food was delicious, and the service was attentive to every detail, which was wonderful.

  • There are various types of baths

  • It is about 500 meters from the Shinkansen station. It is near the entrance to the Yuzawa Kogen Ropeway. You can enjoy the hot springs while looking at the mountain ranges. There are two large baths and two open-air baths with different themes. There are also rooms with open-air baths (not hot springs). The meals are mainly seafood.

Yuzawa Toei Hotel

3459 Yuzawa, Yuzawa-machi, Minamiuonuma-gun

  • A comfortable hotel where you can also enjoy hot springs

  • The hotel is conveniently located just a 7-minute walk from the west exit of JR Echigo Yuzawa Station, and has a wide variety of room types, so you can get a better deal. The rooms are retro and relaxing, so I recommend it. Although the rooms do not have open-air baths, they do have a spacious, open-air large rock bath. At night, you can enjoy the starry sky, and in winter, you can enjoy the open-air bath with a view of the snow.

Yuzawa New Otani

  • A wide variety of hot springs

  • There are several types of hot springs, so it's a great hotel for hot spring lovers. There are many room options, such as Japanese-style rooms, Western-style rooms, and Japanese and Western room, depending on the number of people and budget, and it is also designed with the elderly in mind. The hotel also serves delicious food, so I recommend it overall.

Otowaya Ryokan

419 Yuzawa, Yuzawa, Minamiuonuma-gun

  • A relaxing stay like home

  • It's easily accessible from the station and within walking distance. The room has a very nice atmosphere, and is a relaxing Japanese-style room. The open-air hot spring is 100% natural hot spring, and there are two types. There is also a private bath, which is recommended for private use. The price range is low, but the food is good, so I think you'll want to go again.

Sake Hotel Tamakiya

Matsunoyama Yumoto 13

  • The Japanese-style room with an open-air bath on the top floor is the best.

  • The inn has rooms with open-air baths and a large public bath. The rooms with open-air baths 100% natural hot spring, so you can fully enjoy Matsunoyama's medicinal baths. The meals are very healthy, featuring local Uonuma koshihikari rice and Echigo country cuisine. The view of the countryside mountains from the room windows is wonderful.
