What are the best sights and hotels near Itsukushima Shrine in Hiroshima?
I'm planning a 3-day, 2-night trip to Itsukushima Shrine in Hiroshima this autumn. I'm looking for recommendations on "must-see" attractions and hotels that are conveniently located for sightseeing.
18Hotel rankings chosen by people
- For a classic onsen ryokan (hot spring inn) experience near Itsukushima Shrine, I highly recommend Arimoto. While the historic Japanese architecture is stunning, the dining experience is on another level. Here, you can savor authentic kaiseki cuisine, the kind served at a high-end traditional restaurant.
I especially urge you to try the dinner, which features a lavish amount of seafood from the Seto Inland Sea—think sea bream, conger eel, cutlassfish, and oysters, all delivered fresh each morning by local fishermen. It's an experience you shouldn't miss. And of course, be sure to pair your meal with some local Hiroshima sake!コート's answer (Posted on:2024/7/11)

A modern Ryokan (Japanese inn) built in the sukiya style by skilled craftsmen
- Arimoto is the closest hotel to Itsukushima Shrine and is the oldest inn with a history of 400 years. The sukiya-style building, built by craftsmen, is so beautiful that even Japanese people are enchanted. Some rooms have open-air baths, and you can choose between Japanese-style rooms with tatami mats and Western-style rooms with beds. Since it is a high-class Ryokan (Japanese inn), there are also economy-type rooms if you are on a tight budget.中里's answer (Posted on:2024/7/11)

How about this accommodation?
- This is a long-established Ryokan (Japanese inn) whose selling point is that it is the closest inn to Itsukushima Shrine. It also has an open-air bath with the scent of cypress. You can see the large torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine from your room, so the view is not bad. This inn also has a commitment to food, with kaiseki(a traditional Japanese multiple course meal )that incorporate plenty of Setouchi produce and local vegetables. The hot spring is an artificial hot spring. Please use this as a reference.ぽっさむ's answer (Posted on:2016/9/17)

This is Ryokan (Japanese inn) on the island side.
- If you are going to Itsukushima Shrine and will be staying for two nights, why not try staying at Ryokan (Japanese inn) on both the main island and the Itsukushima side? The recommended hotel on the island is Miyajima Grand Hotel Arimoto. It is the closest hotel to Itsukushima Shrine. Depending on the room, you can see the red torii gate.びびお's answer (Posted on:2017/5/12)

You can eat freshly baked "Momiji Manju"
- How about Miyajima Grand Hotel Arimoto? It's the closest hotel to Itsukushima Shrine. It's convenient for viewing the nighttime illuminations of Itsukushima Shrine. Also, although it's not a tourist spot, I recommend trying the freshly baked momiji manju on the spot. There are several shops, including Fujiiya, where you can enjoy freshly baked momiji manju and tea. The freshly baked ones were incredibly delicious!たこべー's answer (Posted on:2017/9/30)

Worth It for a Longer Stay!
- I highly recommend the Grand Prince Hotel Hiroshima. It's a beautiful, comfortable hotel nestled in a lovely setting on the Seto Inland Sea, and it's definitely worth booking for more than one night.
One of its biggest advantages is the amazing access to Miyajima Island; a high-speed ferry departs from the pier right in front of the hotel and gets you there in just under 30 minutes. The views from the hotel are fantastic, and the food is also excellent. I particularly recommend the buffet, which features delicious local ingredients like Hiroshima's famous oysters.エイム's answer (Posted on:2016/6/11)

Enjoy Miyajima's Scenery and World Heritage Sites from Your Hotel
- When you arrive at Miyajima, the first thing you should do is head to Itsukushima Shrine and the five-story pagoda. The vermilion shrine and pagoda stand out beautifully in the clear autumn air. One of the unique features of Itsukushima Iroha is that some of the rooms offer views of the five-story pagoda and the townscape of Miyajima. Viewing the symbol of Miyajima from the hotel and then actually walking to the location will add a special touch to your trip. Even after returning from sightseeing, you can relax and soak in the afterglow of your trip while looking at the view from your room window.オコジョ's answer (Posted on:2025/9/29)

- One place you can't miss when visiting Miyajima in the fall is Omotesando Shopping Street, where you can find a wide selection of local delicacies. With so many delicious foods, such as grilled oysters and momiji manju, you can have fun just walking around eating. Itsukushima Iroha's appeal lies in its prime location in the middle of this shopping street. During the day, you can enjoy walking around the bustling shopping street and in the evening, you can savor creative Japanese cuisine made with seasonal ingredients from the Seto Inland Sea at the hotel restaurant. Another great thing about it is that you can immediately return to the hotel and rest in a quiet, comfortable room.ナキウサギ's answer (Posted on:2025/9/29)

Take a look at the islands of the Seto Inland Sea
- The first place we recommend is the Aki Grand Hotel, located across from Itsukushima Shrine. It is Ryokan (Japanese inn) with onsen(hot spring). Itsukushima is a recommended tourist spot, but apart from the shrine, it is the view of the Seto Inland Sea islands from the top of the mountain. A Must-Visit in Autumn: Momijidani Park on Miyajima Island
- If you're visiting Miyajima in the fall, a trip to Momijidani Park to see the vibrant autumn colors is an absolute must! Located just behind Itsukushima Shrine, it is a historic and renowned spot for its beautiful foliage.
For accommodation, why not consider the nearby Iwaso Ryokan? It is a historic onsen ryokan (hot spring inn) with an entrance gate that dates back to 1892. While the main building, a wooden structure from the early Showa period, is lovely, the "hanare" cottages are truly special. These separate villas were built between the Taisho and Showa eras using traditional Japanese architectural techniques, and I can't recommend them enough.タカヒロ's answer (Posted on:2024/7/11)
