8-1 Nishidaimonsaki, Inuyama, Inuyama-shi

  • A slightly retro inn located along the Kiso River

  • The inn is located a 6-minute walk from Inuyama-Yuen Station, making it convenient for sightseeing. It has a slightly retro atmosphere, which makes it feel comfortable. In addition to the spacious indoor bath, the large communal bath also has a hexagonal stone open-air bath, which is lit up at night, creating a fantastical world. The meal was a kaiseki meal made with seasonal local ingredients. Every dish was very delicious, and even though there were many dishes, we were able to finish it all. From the room, we could see the view of the Kiso River right in front of us, and we were able to spend a relaxing time.

702 Munakata-dori, Yamaga-shi

  • Relax at a Modern Ryokan with "Beauty-Enhancing" Hot Springs

  •  If you're looking for a place accessible by car from Kumamoto Castle, I highly recommend Yutorelo Yamaga in Yamaga Onsen. While Kurokawa Onsen is also fantastic, Yamaga Onsen is famous for its "Bijin-no-Yu," known as "beauty-enhancing water." The water has a unique, silky-smooth, almost viscous texture that feels amazing on the skin. The ryokan itself is a beautifully renovated older building, blending traditional charm with a very chic, modern design. It’s the perfect place to treat yourself and feel "a touch of luxury." Depending on when you go, they sometimes offer day-trip plans that include lunch. You can easily enjoy this experience well within your 20,000 yen budget. Plus, it's very accessible—less than an hour's drive from Kumamoto Castle.

4411-9 Hisaishi Minamiasomura

  • A Panoramic Open-Air Bath Overlooking the Spectacular Scenery of Aso

  • After visiting Kumamoto Castle, if you're driving to an onsen, how about Hotel Greenpia Minamiaso? Kurokawa Onsen is also wonderful, but it's over 90 minutes by car from the castle. This area, Minamiaso, is only about an hour away, and you can enjoy a different kind of majestic scenery than what you'd find in Kurokawa. The view from the rotenburo (open-air bath) is absolutely spectacular. A sweeping panorama of the Aso mountains stretches out right before your eyes, and it truly makes you feel "a touch of luxury." Please note, the hotel is under renovation until June 2026. Before the renovations, they offered a day-trip plan that included lunch and onsen access, so I expect you'll be able to enjoy it well within your budget (once it reopens).

1-1 Kawasaki, Tamana-shi

  • A "Beauty Hot Spring" with Great Access, Just 50 Mins from Kumamoto Castle

  • After sightseeing at Kumamoto Castle, we recommend Shogen Sanso in Tamana onsen(hot spring). Kurokawa onsen(hot spring) is also famous, but it's a little far from Kumamoto Castle. Tamana onsen(hot spring) is easily accessible, about 50 minutes by car, so driving is less of a hassle. They offer a day trip plan that includes lunch. For a budget of 20,000 yen per person, you can enjoy a slightly luxurious lunch, similar to kaiseki cuisine. onsen(hot spring) has thick, viscous water known as "Bijin-no-yu (a hot spring of beauty)," which is sure to please your girlfriend.

7. Kafutei

Kikuka-machi Ikenaga 177

  • An inn where you can enjoy Kumamoto 's original kaiseki cuisine and hot spring Onsen

  • Although Ryokan (Japanese inn) is quietly located in the countryside, you can feel the atmosphere of a Japanese Ryokan (Japanese inn) from the entrance. It has a Japanese modern atmosphere, so it is the perfect inn for those who want to relax and spend a relaxing time, and the hot spring is also quite famous. The water is said to be mellow and thick, and many people return for this hot spring. It makes your skin smooth and your hair silky smooth. I think women will be happy. The food is a kaiseki kaiseki(a traditional Japanese multiple course meal )made with locally produced ingredients from Kumamoto Prefecture, and it is well-balanced and very satisfying, with high-quality horse sashimi and steak that you would never normally be able to eat, seafood, and desserts. They also explain the food thoroughly, so you can enjoy each dish while savoring its flavor. This inn combines the open feeling of nature, the exquisite kaiseki(a traditional Japanese multiple course meal )unique to Kumamoto, the thick hot spring, and first-class hospitality, so please come and visit us. The accommodation fee is reasonable.

Hinagunaka Nishimachi 379

  • An inn offering rooms with semi-open-air baths

  • You can use the rooms with a semi-open-air bath with 100% natural hot spring water, so couples can relax in the hot spring without worrying about others. The hot spring warms you from the inside out and leaves your skin smooth, which is great for women. You can use the room for four hours, so you can relax. For lunch, you can enjoy a Japanese meal with golden grilled spiny lobster.
