"Fumoto Ryokan" Reviews & Details
"Fumoto RyokanReviews about "
- Fumoto Ryokan is an inn I can confidently recommend to both onsen enthusiasts and those who appreciate fine cuisine.
Regarding the basashi (horse sashimi) you requested, you have options: you can either select a plan that already includes it, or you can order it as an additional dish. The cuisine here is strongly committed to local flavors, featuring specialties like Akaushi (red) beef.
Furthermore, all the hot springs are gensen kakenagashi. This means they are 100% free-flowing, with water piped directly from the source—never recycled.
A significant highlight is the 11 kashikiri (private-use) baths, which are free for guests. This is ideal for families. Many of these baths are full of character, allowing you to fully savor the authentic Kurokawa Onsen experience.

A Ryokan for Delicious Cuisine and "Onsen-Hopping"
- If you're looking to eat basashi (horse sashimi) in Kurokawa Onsen, how about Fumoto Ryokan?
They have wonderful meal plans that feature delicious local ingredients. These include Kumamoto specialties like "shimofuri" (marbled) basashi and "Akaushi beef kuwa-yaki" (beef grilled on a traditional kuwa, or hoe). It's also great that you can just order the basashi a la carte (separately).
But the best part? This inn has so many baths, you can do your own "yu-meguri" (onsen tour) without ever leaving the property! They have tons of kashikiri (private family baths). They also have some really atmospheric baths right by the river.
I’m positive your whole family will be satisfied here!

An Unbeatable Number of Private Baths for a Full Onsen Experience
- Fumoto Ryokan is my #1 recommendation.
Its biggest appeal, by far, is the sheer number of baths. They have eleven different types of "kashikiri" (private-use baths) that are free for guests. No reservations are needed; if one is open, your family can use it immediately.
Here’s the key benefit: Because there are so many, you almost never have to wait for other guests.
Naturally, the food is superb as well. They offer dinner plans that feature "Akaushi" beef, along with the "basashi" (horse sashimi) you were hoping for. This is an inn where your family can enjoy Kurokawa's famous hot springs and specialties in complete privacy.

In terms of value for money, I think this is one of the best inns in Kurokawa.
- If you're visiting Kurokawa Onsen, how about Fumoto Ryokan? Its most incredible feature is the sheer abundance of hot springs: 13 different types of baths across 15 different locations, all within the inn! The traditional open-air baths are especially atmospheric and wonderful. It's conveniently located in the center of the onsen town, perfect for sightseeing, and also offers free-to-use private baths ideal for couples. For around 20,000 yen per person with two meals included, and the option of a spacious 45㎡ room with its own private open-air bath, the value is fantastic.
