I've been there a few times, both for driving from Fukuoka and for day trips. (It's a luxury hotel, so it's hard to stay there!) The open-air bath is very spacious, and the mountains spread out in front of you, Breathtaking view! After the bath, I recommend the traditional pudding at Cafe BanBan. It's a firm pudding that you could eat in cafes during the Showa era, and I go there just for that. The interior is Japanese-style, with a warm wooden feel. If you are staying at Yufuin Onsen, I recommend "Yufuin Sansuikan". It has two baths that are among the largest in Yufuin. I stayed there a few years ago. The open-air bath in particular was Breathtaking view view of nature and Mt. Yufu. The room was a Japanese-style room, but it was clean and comfortable.
